Cape Town - Emergency services were still mopping up on Sunday evening after a deadly storm in Ficksburg, in the Free State, in which a 9-year-old boy died when a wall fell on him.
Police spokesperson Phumelelo Dlamini told News24 that 42 people had been injured.
Some of them were taken to a hospital in Bloemfontein, while others were being treated locally, he said.
Dlamini said 100 houses were damaged by the strong wind and not 1 000 as had earlier been reported.
The SA Weather Service could not confirm if it had, in fact, been a tornado which had struck the area.
A spokesperson did, however, confirm that a severe thunderstorm had passed over FicksburgA cellphone pic taken by a policeman on his way from Clocolan to Ficksburg.
