Second tornado of the day hits East Rand 2011-10-02 22:54

Cape Town - A tornado hit the East Rand on Sunday night, causing extensive damage at Duduza, near Nigel.

It was the second of the day after a high wind, suspected to also have been a tornado, flattened houses at Ficksburg, in the Free State.

A 9-year-old boy died when a wall fell on him.

A spokesperson for the SA Weather Service in Pretoria confirmed that the storm which had hit at Duduza was a tornado.

He said some houses had been extensively damaged, but could not give an exact number.

The weather service said more storms could be expected on Monday.

A spokesperson at O R International Airport said six flights were delayed for about an hour on Sunday due to the inclement weather
