Second tornado of the day hits East Rand

Cape Town - Emergency services were still mopping up on Sunday evening after a deadly storm in Ficksburg, in the Free State, in which a 9-year-old boy died when a wall fell on him.
Police spokesperson Phumelelo Dlamini told News24 that 42 people had been injured.
Some of them were taken to a hospital in Bloemfontein, while others were being treated locally, he said.
Dlamini said 100 houses were damaged by the strong wind and not 1 000 as had earlier been reported.
The SA Weather Service could not confirm if it had, in fact, been a tornado which had struck the area.
A spokesperson did, however, confirm that a severe thunderstorm had passed over Ficksburg

Second tornado of the day hits East Rand 2011-10-02 22:54
Cape Town - A tornado hit the East Rand on Sunday night, causing extensive damage at Duduza, near Nigel.
It was the second of the day after a high wind, suspected to also have been a tornado, flattened houses at Ficksburg, in the Free State.
A 9-year-old boy died when a wall fell on him.
A spokesperson for the SA Weather Service in Pretoria confirmed that the storm which had hit at Duduza was a tornado.
He said some houses had been extensively damaged, but could not give an exact number.
The weather service said more storms could be expected on Monday.
A spokesperson at O R International Airport said six flights were delayed for about an hour on Sunday due to the inclement weather
A link about a Tornado in Free State popped up in my news feed on Twitter (obviously I had to check it out) and it lead me to the You Magazine fan page. I know we don’t usually post stuff like this but it’s a TORNADO! Tropical storm watch for
Avalon Peninsula South continued
Hurricane Ophelia is forecast to track close to the southeastern portion of Newfoundland Monday morning with a possibility of tropical storm conditions.
A tropical storm watch means that a tropical storm or an incipient tropical storm condition poses a possible threat to the specified areas within 36 hours.
Given the close range of hurricane Ophelia's track to the Avalon Peninsula Monday morning, a tropical storm watch is being issued by the Canadian Hurricane Centre for that region. This means that there is a possibility of tropical storm force winds (60 gusting to 90 km/h) from Ophelia.
