  1. By Monday, a sharp jet stream trough will carve out over the Desert Southwest and Four Corners.

    To the east of this feature, southerly winds will transport (or advect, in the lexicon of meteorologists) increasingly warm and humid air near the surface northward into the southern and central Plains, middle and lower Mississippi Valleys.

    Once this jet-stream level energy pushes eastward overtopping the warmer and more humid air mass, not to mention the attendant frontal system (cold front, dryline, warm front), you have a volatile mix for a potential severe weather outbreak, including tornadoes.
