The hot and humid air mass blanketing Southern Quebec is responsible
for a heat wave that will continue today. Highs will exceed the
30-degree mark and humidity levels are very high. Humidex values will
reach 40 this afternoon.
A cold front from Northwestern Quebec will slide toward Southern Quebec this evening; severe thunderstorms could develop ahead of the
Thursday, behind the cold front, conditions will remain warm, but
will be a little more comfortable with humidex values of 35. However,
on Friday, southwesterly winds are expected to herald the return of
hot and humid conditions in Southern Quebec.
During this period, people most vulnerable to health problems related
to the heat are the elderly, people suffering from a chronic disease
(eg, respiratory ailments or heart disease), people suffering from
mental health problems and children 4 years of age and under.
Exposure to these conditions could also cause discomfort, such as
muscle cramps, exhaustion and heatstroke.
